Responsible Firearm Owners

Not just the next step in owning a firearm, but a path.

Defensive Handgun

Responsible Firearm Owners is a pioneer in the personal self defense and firearms training industry. RFO, located in Las Vegas Nevada, offers ongoing classes in firearms training and personal self defense for the Concealed Weapons Permit holder. Promoting responsibility and accountability in the right and privilege to possess and carry a firearm for personal protection and self defense is the goal of RFO.

We all consider ourselves Responsible Firearm Owners however, it has been RFO’s experience that most concealed weapons permit licensees do very little beyond the initial qualification, and periodic re-qualification, to carry their firearm for personal protection, self defense and the defense of others. Where does that responsibility end?

As Responsible Firearm Owners, it is our obligation to be more than just "familiar" with our firearms. Typically we attend gun training courses for a few hours or even days, but understanding everything involved in that obligation cannot be gained in such a limited exposure to proper firearms training for personal protection and self defense.

In an effort to better educate each Responsible Firearm Owner that chooses to carry a gun, RFO's ongoing firearms training course addresses the "before, during and after" of what life offers in a personal self defense situation. Awareness, avoidance, negotiation/de-escalation, problem solving, self-defense and the use of force continuum, as well as local and federal mandates for Responsible Firearm Owners, are all topics that each RFO should know and understand with absolute certainty, and are all subject matter in the RFO personal protection and self defense firearm training curriculum.

As each one of us that legally possess, and carries, a firearm are Responsible Firearm Owners, owning a firearm is more than attending a gun training course, or firearms training institute for a weekend training course, but rather an obligation to our self, our family and loved ones, as well as our community which we carry our firearm among.

You as an RFO, whether in Las Vegas Nevada, northern United States, or the east coast legally carry this obligation wherever you go with your firearm & concealed weapons permit, but...Is it only carried in your holster and wallet, or is it carried in your heart and your mind as well?

Overview

About the Training

Training is divided into five areas; Classroom, Drills, Tactics, Environmental Scenarios, and Range.

Classroom

This is the first segment of training with RFO. The student will be provided printed and presented material essential to ongoing training. Classroom topics will cover a number of areas of knowledge to include, but not limited to, rights and responsibilities under local and federal statutes, basic firearm safety and handling, understanding the culpable ramifications of action and/or the lack of action. Information from proper attire to proper equipment will be provided, as well as periodic testing of knowledge presented.

Drills

There will be a variety of drills that will be learned, and repeated on a daily basis. Some drills will be physically performed daily, as others will be referred to and periodically practiced. Muscle memory is essential to proficiency. The basics and fundamentals of firearm training, marksmanship skills, and physical movement into and out of fighting stances, and firing positions will be practiced on a daily basis to promote efficiency and effectiveness.

Tactics

This segment of training is intended to address the before, during, and after of a physical altercation while carrying a firearm. The student will learn to prioritize unfolding events in a variety of scenarios. Mindset, awareness, physical conditioning, mental and physical aptitude, as well as reasoning and logical processing will be applied to movement. The Classroom and Drill segments of training will be integrated into this segment for the student to better understand how to properly defend themselves, and others with a firearm. Understanding that the number of potential situations can be endless, it is essential to practice on a regular basis to become proficient and effective should a situation present itself.

Environmental Scenarios

"What if...?" This segment of training addresses just that…The student will be placed in actual environments that we typically find ourselves in, on a daily basis. Lighting, weather, space, obstacles and encumbrances etc. will be added to further develop the student’s knowledge gained from the Classroom, Drills and Tactics.

Range

This is the final segment of training, as it would be the final decision to be made. Being proficient with movement, drills and tactics is useless if we can’t hit the target. In this segment, the student will be provided the opportunity to apply all they have learned in the previous segments of training with "live fire".

Responsible Firearm Owners promote accountability and responsibility.

  • All are welcome to observe any class at any time.
  • Prospective students are welcome to participate in a class (signed waiver required) at no obligation.
  • Wear clothing that you wear when target shooting.
  • Only do what is appropriate. RFO believes in a cooperative learning environment and understands that everyone may not be able to do everything that is practiced, nor may they be willing. RFO is dedicated to promoting knowledge, and all RFO instructors are here to educate not impose.
  • Applications for enrollment are accepted on an on-going basis. RFO's Defensive Handgun program is limited in space.
