Just for Kids

Responsible Firearm Owners in Las Vegas, Nevada is dedicated to the responsibility and accountability that we each assume once we make the decision to own a firearm, and bring that firearm into our home and community. RFO offers ongoing firearms training classes in Las Vegas NV for both adults and children.

RFO’s Just for Kids program was developed from a conversation that was had with a mother that felt it was irresponsible to teach a child how to use a firearm properly;

Having been raised in one of our nation’s most violent cities and having been exposed to gang violence herself, this mother felt that it would be to the child’s detriment by teaching them to become proficient in the handling of a firearm. Her perspective was interesting, as she felt due to the potential influence from gangs and the persuasion of those gang members that may be the child’s "friends", and unknown by the parents, for that child to become versed in firearms may equip the child with the skills to become "the shooter".

In answer to this most interesting and valid perspective, RFO’s Just for Kids program has been developed for the parent and child to interact together under the guidance of a firearm instructor, in a place to facilitate and promote the communication between parent and child. To provide not only firearm safety and proper marksmanship skills, but a complete understanding of the purpose of a firearm and its potential, as well as the outside influences our children are exposed to every day.

One of the greatest byproducts of this parent child interactive firearms training class, beyond the obvious, is the parent and child will have spent time that we can’t get back…For a child or parent, years later sitting at a holiday dinner to say, "...hey mom/dad, son/daughter remember when...". This is something that is invaluable, and most of us pass up when the opportunity arises.

Overview

This class is ongoing and is not a "course". The concept of this "class" is to provide both the parent and child the opportunity to become more than familiar with firearms, but rather educated in firearms. Not only covering proper marksmanship skills, this program will also include the standard firearms safety, as well the history and future of firearms. In addition, the parent and child will also be provided with requirements and consequences for the proper and improper use of a firearm.

There will be an orientation/classroom every day of the class. In this segment of the class, the parent and child will both be briefed (separately) on expectations during the program, and some of what they can look forward to during their training and participation in the program. The students will be given range commands, protocol and etiquette, firing sequences, firearms safety expected on the range and marksmanship skills etc.

On a pre-scheduled day of the month, the students will travel/meet on the range for class.

RFO provides all training firearms, and range firearms including ammunition, targets and eye & ear protection. Students may wear sunglasses, or prescription eye glasses in place of RFO eye protection, but must sign a waiver to do so.

This class is limited in space as there will only be ten (10) children to a class. One (1) parent is allowed and required per child. RFO is not a babysitter; this is a parent & child interactive class for the benefit of both parent and child.
